Xiaomi launches 5,000mAh Qi2 power bank that is only 6mm thick and weighs 98g

Xiaomi has brought out a petite new battery with MagSafe charging – the Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 15W measures only 6mm thick and weighs 98g.

As you can tell by the overly descriptive name, this is a 5,000mAh power bank that can output up to 15W wirelessly using Qi2. It also has a USB-C port on the bottom – that is normally used to charge the battery itself, but it can also be used to charge a phone faster as the wired connection goes up to 22.5W.

The battery is tiny but mighty enough to charge two devices at the same time – one wirelessly and one over the USB-C port (tap the power button to activate this mode).

There are some asterisks involved. A Xiaomi 17 can be charged wirelessly at the full 15W. However, the 17 doesn’t have magnets of its own, so you will need a magnetic case. Well, the wireless charging will work without the magnets too, but that is less convenient than having the battery magnetically attached to the phone. An iPhone will only be able to get 7.5W out of the battery.

The battery measures 98.5 × 71.5 × 6mm. That’s a hair under the width of a Xiaomi 17 (71.8mm) and exactly the width of an iPhone 17. The battery also supports the likes of the Galaxy S25 (70.5mm but you’ll need a case, anyway) and Pixel 10 (72.0mm).

The Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank (MDY-20-EB) has an aluminum alloy shell that comes in three colors. The side that attaches to the phone is made out of fiberglass.

The actual battery inside is a Silicon-Carbon cell with 16% silicon content and is rated for 18.58Wh (typical capacity is 18.95Wh). There is also a 4,369mm² graphite sheet for cooling. The battery has multiple protection mechanisms that guard against over- and under-voltage, overcharge and over-discharge, overcurrent, overheating, electrostatic shock and more.

The Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 15W is already available in some markets: it’s AUD 69.50 in Australia, SGD 69.90 in Singapore and JPY 5,980 in Japan. However, we haven’t found it westward of that.
