The President of the United States confirmed in a Truth Social post that Apple and Intel have agreed to design and manufacture chips for the Cupertino-based company. Even though there’s nothing official from Intel and Apple just yet, Trump’s claims on his social media platform corroborate earlier rumors that Apple considers taking back Intel in its supply chain.

A partnership between Intel and Apple will bring multiple benefits. Apple will diversify its chip supply chain for its iPhones, Macs and iPads since it’s heavily reliant on TSMC right now, which in turn is under heavy strain, and the production lines can’t keep up with the chip demand from the AI sector. In short, Apple is competing with Nvidia and AMD for TSMC’s production lines.
Intel, on the other hand, will secure a steady demand from Apple, which is a much-needed win for the company, having suffered more than a few setbacks in the last few years. Things are looking bright for Intel lately, though. The chipmaker announced a new 18A manufacturing tech, and the demand for its CPUs is growing.
Lastly, this is a win for the current US Administration. With Apple and Intel bringing chip manufacturing home, it means more jobs and investments, but more importantly, less reliance on China and Taiwan. The US government has already pledged a $10 billion investment in Intel to boost domestic production and is looking to secure critical minerals and semiconductors for the US supply chains.
