Apple unveils its first foldable – the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro official, Week 37 in review

Of course, Apple dominated the most popular stories of week 37 this year. Apple held a historic event on September 9 – the first in new CEO Ternus’ reign, and the one to finally unveil the first foldable iPhone.

Interestingly, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max scored more hits than the iPhone Duo. Apple’s latest Pro models got a variable aperture main lens, a faster A20 Pro SoC, and a smaller Dynamic Island. The iPhone 18 Pro series is now on sale, starting from $1,200/€1,450 and $1,300/€1,600, respectively, and will begin shipping on September 18.

The iPhone Duo is, undoubtedly, the star of the show. Apple’s first foldable looks every bit the cutting-edge piece of tech everyone expected. It’s a wide-styled foldable, about the size of a passport when folded. Its inner display is anti-reflective, has a less-visible crease, and is seemingly seamless, thanks to an under-display camera. Oh, and Touch ID is back! The iPhone Duo is shipping in October and costs $2,000/€2,300.

The eSIM-only 18 Pro Max gets the longest battery life in iPhone history.

Apple has entered the foldable smartphone chat, and it’s bringing the goods.

The 18 Pro series is $100/€150/£100 more expensive than the 17 Pro generation.

The new iPhones are set to launch on September 9.

Thanks to the EU’s Energy Labels, we got the actual capacities of the iPhone 18 Pro series batteries. The 18 Pro has a 4,056mAh cell, while the Pro Max has a 5,391mAh one.

Back to the Duo. The natural comparison that people will make is to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8. We ran the numbers, but you can bet we’ll do a full in-depth look at the pair once we get them in the same room.

Only for the models with the physical SIM card slot, however, but it’s more than nothing.

A detailed spec rundown between the two foldables.

A rumor roundup ahead of Apple’s big event.

The three models each have their own strengths and weaknesses – here are the ones that we think matter the most.

And in the only two non-Apple stories that were able to sneak by, we got the design reveal of the Honor Magic9 series and the vivo X500 series.

The Honor Magic9 series will debut in China on September 28. As for the vivo X500 Pro Max, it packs a massive circular rear camera island, in keeping with its predecessors. It will also support the teleconverter zoom lens.

The vivo X500 series will be unveiled on September 21.

The series is also available for pre-order in China.
