We know that most people won’t care about this at all, but if you are reading this article, you are likely among the minority that might actually rejoice to learn that Samsung might be catching up to Google’s own Pixel devices in this one admittedly very niche aspect.
Our colleagues over at Android Authority got access to some leaked logs from the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. In them, they spotted a mention of the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF) – a key component in running a full Linux terminal that was absent from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The S26 Ultra is expected to debut with One UI 8.5, with leaked builds pointing towards the phone running Android 16’s second quarterly release (QPR2) at launch. This is the same release in which Google introduced the Linux Terminal feature, so all of the prerequisites appear to be in place.

What a Linux Terminal feature means in practice is access to a whole sea of Linux-based apps that normally require a computer to run. Tinkerers and developers alike will enjoy extended functionality.
And in case you were wondering about the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra itself, we just recently got a mega leak you can check out.
