A new report based on code inside the Phone by Google app claims Samsung will add Google’s Scam Detection to the Galaxy S26 series, due to be unveiled next month.
Scam Detection powered by on-device Gemini Nano AI has so far been exclusive to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 families, and it’s only available in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, the UK, and the US. There’s another version, that doesn’t use the Gemini model, but relies instead on on-device machine learning, and that one also works on the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 series.

The code inside the Phone by Google app contains mentions of model numbers for the Galaxy S26 series in the dialer (SM-S942 is the S26, SM-S947 is the S26+, and SM-S948 is the S26 Ultra). The Scam Detection feature is codenamed “sharpie”, and that appears in the last line of code above.
The intriguing thing here is that Samsung phones don’t use Google’s Phone app, and while you can install it from the Play Store, it’s unclear if it will gain the necessary permissions to use on-device AI for its purposes, seeing as how it’s not a system app. Of course, there’s another possibility – namely, that Samsung will switch to Google’s Phone app with the One UI 8.5 release that will make its debut on the Galaxy S26 family. Only time will tell.
